Iraq's neighboring states parliamentarians call for ending occupation, an international role

Heads of parliaments of countries neighboring Iraq who started a meeting in Amman on Wednesday called for ending the occupation in Iraq and support for its political institutions and expanding the role of the UN. They condemned the crimes of torturing the Iraqi detainees demanding trials for those responsible.

Speakers of parliaments in Syria, Turkey, Iran, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Jordan, in addition to the two speakers of the parliaments of Bahrain and Egypt and representatives for the UN and the Arab parliamentary Union discussed for two days, means of contributing to putting an end to the deteriorated conditions in Iraq and to avoid its negative reflections on the region. Iraq did not take part in the meeting because it does not have a parliament.

The speaker of the Iranian Shoura council Mahdi karoubi criticized the occupation forces saying " the wrong policy conducted by the occupation forces in Iraq and then the doubled standards in dealing with terrorism and the unserious confrontation of the terrorist groups which consider Iraq as its safe haven for its activities, in itself target the security of Iraq's neighboring states."

The speaker of the Saudi parliament, Saleh Bin Abdullah Bin Hameed, called for "reconsidering the occupation policies in Iraq, considering that the " wave of violence and the deteriorated security condition constitute a source of strong concern to Saudi Arabia as well as the sisterly neighboring states." The Kuwaiti parliament speaker Jasem al-Khurafi said " what is of concern for us is to have stability in Iraq and to enabling it getting its freedom and sovereignty, confirming its inclination to democracy."
