Tunisia postpones confirming its decision to host the Arab summit until Friday
Tunisia-Regional, Politics, 5/12/2004
News reports in Cairo said that a grave development occurred on Monday in conclusion of the meeting of the Arab foreign ministers in Cairo when Tunisia notified the participants in the meeting it will notify them next Friday about its final decision over hosting the Arab summit despite the fact it was approved to convene the summit on May 22nd.
The Tunisian Foreign minister al-Habib Bin Yahya seemed very embarrassed, but and for higher Tunisian considerations, he reconfirmed that the decision of the Tunisian leadership over convening the summit in Tunisia or transferring it will be notified to the Arab League member states and the secretary general of the Arab League on Saturday.
Well-informed sources said that the majority of the Arab states have become determinant not to go to Tunisia, while the overwhelming impression was that all differences Tunisia complained against for and the summit was postponed because of them in March were settled and it was agreed on all fundamental issues.
However, in a press conference on Monday, held with the secretary general of the Arab League, Al Bin Yahya announced that the agenda of the summit will be rich, noting that draft resolutions agreed by the ministers will be submitted to the Arab leaders but did not disclose them.
