Settling inter- Arab disputes as part of preparations for the Arab summit
Regional, Politics, 5/11/2004

News reports in Cairo said that Tunisia is no longer clinging to the level of Arab states representation in the summit due to be convened, so as to open the door wide before the convening of the summit in its set time of May 22 and 23.

The news reports also said that the Saudi foreign minister prince Saud al-Faisal and his Libyan counterpart attended the final session riding in one car, which means ending the differences which exploded on the background of a row that took place in Sharm Esh sheikh summit between the Saudi crown prince Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz and the Libyan leader Muammar al-Qathafi. This was one of the issues that used to stand against the convening of the summit at its due time.

Moreover, the Saudi foreign minister prince Saud al-Faisal held talks with his Libyan counterpart Abdul Rahman Shalqam on the sidelines of the meetings of the Arab foreign ministers.

Concerning the situation in Iraq, news reports said that several amendments were made on the final statement plan, especially avoiding the condemnation of the legitimate Iraqi resistance of the occupation and only confining to deploring attacks targeting the Iraqi civilians and the police men. The Arab ministers also refused the new Iraqi flag.

Concerning conditions in the occupied Palestinian territories, the final statement draft called on the US President George W. Bush to abide by his obligations to establish a viable Palestinian state.
