Arab foreign ministers meet in Cairo

The meeting of the Arab Foreign Ministers resumed its deliberations in Cairo yesterday. The Ministers discussed the draft resolutions connected with developments of the Arab-Israeli conflict and the situation in Iraq to meet the successive developments "in the light of the Israeli aggressive policy and the recent stances of the American administration that violate the legitimate basis and charters of the peace process."

In this regard, the ministers stressed the importance of activating the Arab peace initiative as a base for any just and comprehensive settlement in the region.

Regarding Iraq, the ministers discussed the dangerous situation in Iraq and means of finding an outlet to the current deteriorated situation.

The Ministers were due to call for enhancing the UN role and ask the UN Security Council to adopt all procedures in order to end the occupation through the withdrawal of the occupation forces from Iraq as soon as possible and to restore the Iraqi sovereignty and maintain its unity and integrity.

They also were to discuss the occupation crimes against the Iraqi people that were strongly condemned by the international community.

The ministers also discussed the draft resolutions connected with developing the joint Arab action group.

On the sidelines of the meetings, Foreign Minister Farouk al-Shara discussed with Chairman of the Political Department of the Palestinian Liberation Organization Farouk al-Qaddoumi the latest development of the Palestinian cause and issues on the meetings agenda, and the importance of reaching resolutions that meet the accelerated developments in a way that preserves the Arab interests were stressed in the meeting.
