New approach in US Aid programs in Morocco, USAID Chief
Morocco-USA, Economics, 5/5/2004
Administrator of the US Agency for International Development, Andrew Natsios, said in Rabat this Tuesday Washington has adopted a new approach in its assistance program, in the perspective of the bilateral free trade agreement concluded last March.
THE USAID Chief made the statement to MAP at the end of a work visit to Morocco, during which he signed a five-year US$ 97.65 million donation for Rabat and a US$ 200,000 donation to support Morocco's anti-locust control campaign, bringing the total amount extended by the US for this purpose to US$ 1.1 million.
He explained that the new US assistance program seeks to improve Morocco's trade capacity and help Moroccan enterprises get better acquainted with the US regulatory system.
It is also meant to create wealth and jobs, improve infrastructure and promote education and training, especially in rural areas, says the USAID administrator who had dedicated on Monday in a Moroccan village a community center that will be giving computer courses to youth.
During his visit to Morocco, Natsios was received by Prince Moulay Rachid and minister-delegate for foreign affairs and cooperation, Taib Fassi Fihri.
