GCC states sign a terrorism fighting agreement

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states in Kuwait yesterday signed a security agreement for fighting terrorism. It is the first agreement of its kind calling for the exchange of information in the field of intelligence and vowed to escalate the battle against the growing threats.

The agreement which was signed by the ministers of the interior in the GCC called for eliminating routine impediments which obstruct security work in the region, supporting security network and drying the springs of terrorism. The Kuwaiti news agency quoted the GCC secretary general as saying that "the signing of the agreement comes in the course of a mechanism to revitalize the strategy of the GCC to fight terrorism escorted extremism."

The Kuwaiti daily al-Anbaa yesterday quoted security sources as saying that the agreement will be conducive to run more air, land and sea patrols on the borders, drawing a database for persons suspected to be terrorists. Al-Ateyah also said that the ministers agreed to permit countries of the GCC six member states to use personal ID cards in traveling among these countries.

In the meeting, the Kuwaiti minister of the interior, Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah, announced that the recent attacks and threats make us in a more drastic need to maintain further solidarity and to make decisive collective efforts so as to challenge united these threats and attacks.."
