Regional, Politics, 5/5/2004
The secretary general of the Arab League Amr Moussa said yesterday that he is satisfied over the possibility of the success of the Arab summit due in Tunisia on May 22 and 23, initially. But he expressed, in conclusion of his visit to Algeria, his rejection to any form of prescribed reforms from outside the Arab states.
Moussa said in a joint press conference with the Algerian foreign minister Abdul Aziz Balkhadem that " reform is an important issue. And I do not think we differ over the need of reform and nobody oppose reforms and transparency, but reforms should stem from the Arab world."
Moussa avoided final saying on the date of the Arab summit, noting that " there is s definite date set on May 22 and 23 and there is an opportunity to confirm this date in the meeting of the ministers next Saturday." He added, replying to a question on the possibility that all Arab leaders will be brought in into Tunisia and take tangible decisions "everyone is convinced on the importance of convening the summit as soon as possible. I do not want to talks about optimism or pessimism. There is hope over the success of the summit."
