International and Arab human rights organizations Sit-in in Beirut
Regional-USA, Politics, 5/5/2004
Officials representing different international and Arab Human Organizations held in Beirut on Tuesday a sit-in in front of the "UN Economic and Social Committee of West Asia" ( ESCWA), protesting the brutal torture practices of the US - British occupying troops in Iraq.
The participants in the set-in raised placards demanding a formation of an international investigating committee to uncover the crimes perpetrated against the Iraqi captives. They demanded also for establishing popular courts, from international organizations, to punish those responsible of occupying Iraq.
The Regional Director of the Amnesty International Organization said that the occupation authorities are obliged to implement the International Law of Human Rights and Geneva Convention to convict those war criminals.
The participants filed a complaint memo to UN Secretary General Kofi Annan in which they condemned "the criminal ways practiced by the US occupation against Iraqi people."
