Yemeni officials involved in torture, killing crimes

Yemeni governmental sources admitted that security officials tortured detainees in prisons to death, besides having committed crimes of corruption.

A news website for the ruling congress party attributed government sources as saying that the Yemeni ministry of the interior brought security men before the attorney general over committing killing crimes and aggressions against citizens by the end of 2003.

The sources said that 54 of the persons involved among those security men are convicted of killing crimes during investigations with citizens, while other 3 were accused of killing upon carrying out control mission.

Other 15 security officials were accused of torturing accused persons during investigations and other 7 were tried in cases of attacks against citizens in various area. The sources confirmed that 11 persons committed legal violations varied between opening fire, and looting and blackmailing of citizens.
