Egypt, Business, 4/29/2004
Egypt's Prime Minister Atef Ebeid Wednesday reviewed a plan to manufacture the first Arab computer in Egypt.
The venture will be launched by the Arab Company for Computer Manufacture, the Kuwaiti Kharafi Industrial Group, the Egyptian Ministries of Communications and Education, Egypt's Akhbar El-Youm Press Foundation and the Benha Company for Electronic Industries.
The plan includes the manufacture of some 100,000 computers in the first phase to reach 200,000 in the second.
A computer plant will be set up in October 6 city, near Cairo.
Initially, the production will be geared towards meeting the local needs, then the project will be export-orientated.
