Tantawi asserts tolerance of Islam

Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Sheikh Mohammed Sayyed Tantawi asserted that tolerance was the core of the Islamic civilization governing every saying and action.

Tantawi made the remarks at the inaugural session of the 16th General Conference of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, which opened in Cairo earlier Wednesday.

Prophet Mohammed has given the most wonderful examples of tolerance, he said.

Tantawi made it clear that Islam tolerated neither aggression nor terrorism because both opened the way for corruption and destruction in the world.
