Israel digs a trench along its border with Egypt
Palestine-Israel, Military, 4/29/2004

Israeli military sources said that Israel will dig a trench along the borders between Egypt and Gaza with the aim to prevent what it alleged weapons smuggling after withdrawal from Gaza.

The same sources explained that the bid will be announced in May to dig the trench which will be at 4 km length near Rafah city along a security fence Israel had installed before.

This, however, coincided with wounding of 4 Israeli soldiers in a booby trapped car explosion near one Israeli patrol at Kfar Daroum settlement in the downtown of Gaza.. The executor of the attack was killed in the operation which Palestinian sources said he is from Ezz Eddine al-Qassam group, the military wing of Hamas movement and that his name is Tareq Hameed ( 24 year old).

Diab Hameed, the father of Tareq said he is proud that his son carried out this operation which he described as a "an answer to the terrorist operations" carried out by the Zionists against the Palestinians as well as acts of assassinations against them."

Meanwhile, the Israeli police released Surri Nuseibah chairman of Jerusalem university after he was detained for several hours. The Israeli police accused Nuseibah of giving jobs to Palestinians from the West Bank said they had entered Jerusalem illegally.

Nuseibah described the process of his detention as one of the occupation practices which he said will not be eliminated unless occupation is removed. He said he was released at a guarantee.
