Sahara is Absolute priority of Moroccan Diplomacy, FM
Morocco-Algeria, Politics, 4/27/2004
"The Moroccan diplomacy has always defended and will continue to defend Morocco's territorial unity (Sahara issue) as an absolute priority," asserted Moroccan foreign minister, Mohammed Benaissa.
Benaissa said in an interview published Monday by the daily "Le Matin du Sahara et du Maghreb" the dispute over the Sahara with the Algeria-backed Polisario separatists is an "artificial" conflict that "hampers the integration of our region in the world."
"Countries are condemned to create blocks if they are to catch the train of globalization," said Benaissa in the interview that was published on the occasion of the "national day of diplomacy" that commemorates the creation of the foreign affairs ministry on April 26, 1956.
The foreign minister noted that the Moroccan diplomacy was restructured, taking into account the "economic needs" dictated by globalization and the latest developments on the international scene where "the single-pole system" seems currently to prevail.
He added that in conformity with the instructions of king Mohammed VI, the restructuring is also translated by a reform based on staff recruitment and training.
