Sudanese peace agreement is expected within days
Sudan, Politics, 4/26/2004
The Sudanese foreign minister Mustafa Ismael announced that Khartoum is ready to give concessions in the negotiations it carries out with the people's movement for the liberation of Sudan, when these concessions are necessary. This was expressed at a time when the first deputy for the Sudanese President left back for Nivasha in order to resume talks with the leader of the movement John Garang.
The Sudanese foreign minister added that the first deputy for the Sudanese President Othman Muhammad Taha returned back to the talks in Nivasha, Kenya to lead the negotiations on behalf of the government, expressing his optimism over reaching an agreement with the people's movement for the liberation of Sudan within the few coming days.
He stressed that the Sudanese government is ready to give concessions " when it feels it is necessary without violating the green lines," noting that it had done that in Mashakos agreement. The Sudanese minister considered in a press conference held in Manama that matters are proceeding forward.
The Sudanese minister denied the occurrence of any ethnical massacres in Darfour "A liar is the one who says that there is extermination in Darfour," he said adding "there is a big onslaught and magnifying in order to show the situation the opposite way, and that Khartoum is aware of that." However, Nivasha's negotiation is stuck by the issue of implementing the Islamic Sharia in Khartoum and followed complications like oil, race, the ideology and the conflicts in Western Darfour districts.
