One American was killed in Iraq, Bremer brings back thousands of Baathists to their posts
Iraq-USA, Politics, 4/24/2004

The American occupation forces in Iraq said that one American soldier was killed in a bomb explosion when his vehicle was running in Samera city to the north of Baghdad, noting that the killed soldier is a member in the first contingent troops.

Meantime, the American administrator of Iraq, Paul Bremer, said that senior former Iraqi army officers will be summoned to help in rebuilding the framework of the new army.

Bremer told the Iraqi TV that the majority of those army officers enjoy good reputation and will assume missions in the few forthcoming months, noting that the Iraqi soldiers will be put at the order of senior Iraqi officers leadership at a grade of Lt. gen. after June 30.

He continued that thousands of school teachers and hundreds of university teachers in Iraq will be returned back to their works after they were removed because they are members of the Baath party.

The spokesman for the Iraqi occupation of Iraq, Dan Senior, said this does not mean any change in the policy of exterminating the Baathists. He indicated that the new Iraqi army will open up its doors before officers from the former Iraqi army as far as their hands are not bloodied, as he alleged.
