Libya welcomes the alleviation of American sanctions against it
Libya-USA, Politics, 4/24/2004
Libya has commended the decision of the American president George W. Bush to alleviate economic sanctions used to be imposed on it and described that as a victory to it.
The Libyan official news agency said that the Libyan leader Muammar al-Qathafi received a telephone call from the Tunisian President Zine al-Abidin Ben Ali congratulating him on this occasion, but circles close to the Libyan government did not hide their regret over Bush's decision to alleviate the sanctions but not to lift them wholly.
Director of the higher studies academy in Libya, Saleh Ibrahim, said that Tripoli had met all its obligation and there is no reason for not resuming natural relations with the US, but he admitted that the alleviation of sanctions is considered a step into the right track.
The White House on Friday evening announced that the US President decided to lift economic sanctions used to be imposed on Libya after Tripoli gave up its program to develop weapons of mass destruction.
