Tehran prepares a file against Saddam
Iraq-Iran, Politics, 4/23/2004

Chairman of the Iranian war committee in Iraq, Abdullah al-Najafi, said yesterday that Tehran is filing a complaint against the former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein under the charge of torturing Iranian prisoners detained during the Iranian- Iraqi war ( 1980- 1988 ).

Al-Najafi added that the Iranian foreign ministry is currently filing a compliant against Saddam Hussein under the charge of torturing the Iranian war prisoners in a way violating the International Humanitarian law. He explained that 39,000 Iranian soldiers returned back from imprisonment in Iraq, stressing that there are no more jailed prisoners in any of the two countries following a long difference on this matter.

Earlier Iran had announced it is preparing a complaint against Saddam Hussein especially under the charge of using chemical weapons and that it will keep its right to demand the new Iraqi authorities of compensations for the war.

Al-Najafi indicated that some former Iranian soldiers detained by Iraq were held in " Mujahidee Khalq" bases. He said that Iran asked the ICRC to investigate those prisoners but the Americans refused to permit members of the ICRC to have access to these bases."
