Bloody day in Iraq; American army accuses Iraqi police of supporting resistance

Commander of the first American armored contingent in Iraq. Gen. Martin Dimpsy accused groups in the Iraqi police of helping members of resistance and of working against the American occupation forces, admitting that operations of the American forces on the Iraqi territories reached a very critical point.

The American Gen. said on Wednesday before the annual ceremony of the American press association in a statement transmitted via satellites from Baghdad to Washington that one of each 10 Iraqi police force works against the American forces.

He indicated that 40% of the police members quit the service because they were threatened, but he did not mention the source of the threat, and that 50 % of members trained by the occupation forces along one year is still working regularly. The accusations of the American gen. coincided with the bombardment of three Iraqi police centers in al-Basra to the south of Baghdad, carried out by suicide bombers, according to a British military spokesman, and resulted in killing 69 persons and more than 235 were injured many of them are in critical health conditions, while three Iraqi were killed and four British soldiers wounded in a bombardment targeted the policy academy in al-Zubeir city to the south of al-Basra.
