Patten: All interests of ME parties should be concerned
Regional-European Union, Politics, 4/21/2004
EU Commissioner for Foreign Affaires on Tuesday said there could be no permanent peace in the Middle East unless interests of all parties concerned were taken into account.
In a statement to Czech paper " the Economist," Chris Patten said the EU was still regarding the Roadmap as a significant means to reach settlement and any accord between Israel and the United States does not mean the invalidity of the Roadmap.
He stressed the EU would not change position on this question and is to continue extending aid to the Palestinians in case of an Israeli pull out of Gaza, but he underlined the EU demanded guarantees from Israel that the help would not be made futile.
