Morocco firmly condemned the ÒcowardÓ assassination of Hamas leader Abdelaziz Rantissi, and two of his companions, saying this act will help escalate tension and violence in the Middle east region.

In a press release Saturday night, the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation said that Òfollowing this coward aggression perpetrated by the Israeli Army in assassinating Dr. Abdelaziz Rantissi and his companions, Morocco reiterates its firm condemnation and denounces with vigor this kind of acts banished by all celestial religions and international conventions.Ó

ÒThis assassination is likely to worsen the situation and engender escalation of violence and reciprocal violence qui undermines all chances of peace, security and stabilityÓ, the press release said.

ÒMorocco, it went on, urges the International Community to shoulder all its responsibilities following this dangerous escalation and to step up efforts to put an end to this drift which threatens security and stability in the whole region.Ó, the Ministry concluded.

The attack on Rantissi, who died after his car was hit in an Israeli air strike yesterday, came less than a month after Israel killed Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, founder of the group which promised Ò volcano of revenge''.

``Our revenge will come a hundredfold for the blood of Rantissi and Yassin,'' Hamas said in a statement signed by the organization's military wing, known as Izadin al-Qassam. ``We will ignite a volcano of revenge.''
