Morocco gets support from Argentina for possible conclusion of FTA with Mercosur
Morocco-Argentina, Politics, 4/17/2004

Argentina has pledged its support to Morocco with a view to concluding a free trade agreement between the Kingdom and the four member countries of Mercosur, a regional economic grouping made up of Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay.

The pledge came at a meeting, in Buenos Aires Friday, between visiting Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Mohamed Benaissa and his Argentinian counterpart Rafael Bielsa.

Both ministers also talked about the preparations under way for the holding of the 5th meeting of the joint Moroccan-Argentinian Cooperation Commission scheduled in Rabat May 20-22.

The 4th meeting of this Commission aimed at boosting bilateral relations was held in January 2003 in Buenos Aires.

During his visit, the Moroccan Foreign Minister was received by the vice-President and speaker of the Argentinian Senate, Daniel Scioli to whom he handed a message from King Mohammed VI to the President of Argentina, Nestor Kirchner who is observing a period of convalescence after being treated in Hospital.

Benaissa had earlier visited Brazil and Chile where he delivered royal messages to their leaders.
