Palestinian president advisor: visit to Morocco part of consultations with Arab leaders
Morocco-Palestine, Politics, 4/14/2004
Hani Al Hassan, Advisor of Palestinian president Yasser Arafat, said his visit to Morocco is "part of the Palestinian authority's consultations with the main Arab leaders" whenever it is confronting a difficult situation.
Al Hassan told reporters at the end of an audience Tuesday with king Mohammed VI, the Palestinian authority has exposed to king Mohammed VI Palestine's stance. The advisor also expressed satisfaction as to the initiatives Morocco intends to take in support of the Palestinian cause both financially and politically.
On the peace process in the Middle East, the advisor said the process is in a deadlock because of "Israel's pressure on the United States despite Washington's awareness that a solution can be reached within a month or two."
Al Hassan said it is crucial to hold an Arab summit as soon as possible. "Arab solidarity is our major weapon against Israel and our means to pressure the United States."
As for Israel's eventual unilateral withdrawal from the Gaza strip, Al Hassan said "colonization has become very costly to Israelis because of the Intifada (uprising). The Israeli army was hit so hard, it has no other choice but to withdraw."
At the meeting with the Palestinian official, the sovereign reiterated support to the Palestinian authority and the Palestinian people in their "fair struggle for their legitimate rights and for the establishment of an independent state with Al-Quds Asharif as a capital."
The sovereign, chairman of Al Quds Committee, also stressed the need to resume the peace process and return to negotiations as the only alternative for peace, stability and co-existence for peoples of the region.
