Al-Bashir: the peace agreement to be signed within days
Sudan, Politics, 4/14/2004

The Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir said yesterday that the peace agreement with the southern rebels might be signed within the few coming days.

The Sudanese TV yesterday quoted al-Bashir as saying in a speech before members of his National Congress party "we expect a nearby agreement to be signed today or tomorrow ( Wednesday) or during the two coming days."

Negotiations continue between the two delegations of the Sudanese government and the southern rebels. Several days ago the negotiations were confronted by the obstacle of the government wanting to implement the Islamic Sharia in the capital Khartoum.

Al-Bashir said " there will be one law in the capital. There will not be more than one law, but we will give guarantees to non- Muslims." But he did not clarify how this issue will be solved with the southern rebels.
