Egyptian ministry of the interior: Conditions in the region benefits al-Qaida
Egypt-Regional, Politics, 4/13/2004

The Egyptian minister of the interior Habib al-Adeli said that conditions in the Middle East region will help the al-Qaida organization to unify its ranks noting that it is still standing and able to move.

In statements to the press while inaugurating the central security camp in the new Burj al-Arab( northern west of Cairo), al-Adeli warned that the " world will witness in the coming phase new and escalated terrorist operations," adding that " what we are witnessing at the international and regional arenas will create new cells that will carry out more fierce operations."

Al-Adeli whose security departments launched during the 1990s a war against armed Islamic organizations inside and outside Egypt said that " al-Qaida organization is standing and able to move and its contact channels are still on." The Egyptian minister whose statements were quoted by the Middle east news agency said that "members of al-Qaida organization includes many of political and religious affiliation of various nationalities."

He continued that al-Qaida organization has changed its slogans. It used to use Islam as its motto and has become using national slogans so as to make use of the events taking place in the region, in remarks to conditions in Iraq and the Palestinian territories.

The Egyptian minister warned that these conditions "constitute a grave point as ( al-Qaida organization) will attract several elements because of the current conditions and these will be converted into terrorist elements." Al-Adeli did not rule out that Egyptians had joined the Iraqi fighters who stand against the US. He said this might be evident because "there are large numbers of Egyptians working in Iraq since long years and many of them got the Iraqi nationality."
