Jordan, Local, 4/12/2004

The authorities announced that the " security departments were able to practically foil the terrorist attempts which intended to undermine the state's security and safety.. and the cars announced earlier loaded with weapons and explosives were confiscated and several persons involved in this case were arrested."

The authorities added that the situation concerning this case is under control.

The Jordanian security forces seized a car filled with weapons and explosives and detained several persons "involved" during a vast operation that took place to the north part of the country.

News reports in Amman said that the authorities arrested two wanted persons in the case of the booby trapped cars in Irbid city ( 80 Km to the North of Amman).

The Jordanian authorities also found the two other booby trapped cars that were searched for, one week ago.

The Jordanian authorities have been since more than week searching for booby trapped cars after arresting members of a network suspected to have links to al-Qaida organization.

A high ranking Jordanian official announced last Thursday that there are " two booby trapped cars filled with explosives and the police are searching for," noting that the police has enough information on the specifications of the two cars.
