Egypt, central electric grid for Arab states

Egypt has been chosen by 9 Arab countries including Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Turkey, Libya, Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco a center to control their electricity networks in a bid to set up the first bourse for the Arab countries that share an electric linkage grid.

Minister of Electricity, Dr. Hassan Younis said that experts of electricity from both Jordan and Iraq arrived in Cairo yesterday to co-study with the Egyptian electricity sector the feasibility of implementing the electric linkage grid between Iraq and Jordan via a unified national network to facilitate electricity transfer and to provide electric basic needs to Iraq.

The minister pointed out that an agreement has been reached to provide Iraq with 100 megawatts at present and to increase the rate at non-rush hours to 300 megawatts.
