Iraq-USA, Military, 4/10/2004
The people of Falouja yesterday burried their dead in a fooball playground, while hundreds of Sheikhs, women and children left the city of fears of the fighting which continued in it despite mediation made by members of the governing council which did not succeed in halting the American military operations against the city.
The director of the main hospital in Falouja city said that more than 450 Iraqis were killed in the city since the beginning of the battles while more than 1000 were injured. A matter which was also confirmed by assistant member of the governing council Mohsin Abdul Hamid, Hatem a-Husseini. The American administrator of Iraq, Paul Bremer, had announced a unilateral cease fire as from yesterday noon in a step which he said that the American forces aim through it facilitating the meeting of a delegation from the city and member of the Iraqi governing council with the occupation leaders and permitting humanitarian aids to have access to the city and the citizens to bury their dead.
Only 90 minutes passed when leaders of the marines forces permitted their soldiers to resume attacks against the besieged city, and this was however, after, according to army officer Beit Varnon, certain soldiers complained that they are attacked by Iraqi resistance men.
Varnon said "we told them ( the marine leaders ): we will loose our lives if attack operations will not be resumed. And we give the permission." For the first time since Monday, the people of Falouja left their house and carried the bodies of their killed to al-Somoud football playground to bury them, as reaching the cementries of the cities, situated on its outskirts " was impossible" because the occupation forces blocked the roads conducive to it.
On Thursday evening the American soldiers announced that the elderly, children and women can leave the city but no man eligible of carrying weapons will be permitted to leave.
American soldiers said they bombarded yesterday at dawn Abdul Aziz al-Samarei mosques by heavy machine guns under the pretext that Iraqi snippers are positioned in it.
In a step which raised the fears of American soldiers, the occupation forces said it found the bodies of two resistance men who had two explosive belts.
Witnesses said that hundreds of armed Iraqis with machineguns controlled yesterday the road linking Abu Gharib and Falouja and attacked scores of Amerian tanks and military vehicles and set fire in it and this resulted in killing nine.
Meantime, the New York Times quoted a senior official in the private Black water company for security services, where the four Americans whose bodies were mutilated last body, as saying that it seemed that Iraqis misled them into an ambush.
