FIFA President: Morocco's 2010 Cup Bid in Good Hands
Morocco, Sports, 4/9/2004
Morocco's candidacy to host the 2010 world football cup finals is "on the right path and in good hands," said here this Thursday president of the International Football federation, Joseph Sepp Blatter, at the end of a two-day visit to the Kingdom.
"The country has put in a great effort not only in terms of its desire to stage the 2010 World Cup but also in a programme of general development which includes roads, stadiums and communications," said Blatter who was received on the same day by King Mohammed VI.
The FIFA president said the co-hosting option is a non-starter. Libya and Tunisia want to be given the right to co-organize the event.
He said there will be no co-hosting as long as a single country is able to organize alone the world cup, recalling that FIFA was submitted five candidacies on which the executive committee will rule on May 15.
The five candidacies are those of Morocco, Libya, Tunisia, Egypt and South Africa.
"I have strict and total neutrality," said Blatter. "All I can say is that the 2010 World Cup will take place in Africa, a rotation for which I fought to obtain."
