Moussa welcomes Tunisia's initiative, stresses summit to be held in May

The secretary general of the Arab league AL Amr Moussa said that the Arab summit which was postponed by Tunisia will be held in May.

Moussa, who is visiting Mauritania's capital Nouakchott, expressed support for Tunisia's initiative to host the summit but did not rule out that the summit will be held in any other place. Moussa, however, is holding a tour on north west Africa in order to bring about Arab support for convening the summit which Tunisia had postponed last month under the pretext that certain Arab governments refused to discuss files on democracy and human rights.

Moussa said following his meeting with President of Mauritania, Mu'aweyah Weld Seidi Ahmad al-Taye', that the venue of the summit should not be an obstacle. Earlier on Tuesday Moussa said that the summit will be held in Tunisia in the mid of May.

Egypt had led efforts to re-convene the summit and proposed to host it in a new date saying that the postponement is not justified. Moussa said he will be holding an Eastern Arab summit for further consultations, adding that all whom he had met hold unanimously agree that the Arab leaders should return back to the table of negotiations, quickly.

He said that the Arab foreign ministers will be meeting in Cairo in the last week of this month and the schedule of the Arab summit will not change its main topics which are reform, restructuring the Arab league and the Middle East peace initiative.
