Syrian Labor Minister meets with Fact-Finding Committee over Israeli practices
Syria-Israel, Politics, 4/6/2004

Syria's Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Mrs. Siham Dillo on Monday received members of the Fact-Finding Committee on the Conditions of Arab Workers and Businessmen in the Golan and the occupied Arab lands headed by the regional Director for Europe and Central Asia at the International Labor Organization ( ILO ) Fredrich Buttler.

The meeting was attended by the Governor of Quneitra, Nawaf al-Fares, representatives of the Syrian trade unions and Chamber of Industry as well as several state officials.

The Minister briefed the visiting delegation on the conditions of Arab workers and businessmen in the Golan and Palestine, pointing out to the inhuman practices inflicted upon Arab citizens, particularly on the workers and businessmen. Mrs. Dillo called for taking proper steps regarding Israeli hostilities and violations "directed against our Arab people in all of the occupied Arab lands."

For his part, the Governor of Quneitra briefed the delegation about "the barbaric acts committed by Israeli occupation authorities against the Syrian citizens of Golan, including racial discrimination, demolition of houses, uprooting of tress and other inhuman deeds." Mr. Fares called for "curbing Israel and the implementation of the international resolutions."

Later, talks between the two sides centered on the mission of the ILO's Fact-Finding Committee and the report on its findings which would be sent to the ILO and other international agencies.

Buttler said his delegation was careful to gather all important information on the workers in the occupied Arab lands.

He pointed out that his annual report for this year, the 25th of its kind, would include new, accurate information on the mission and work of the Committee.
