Algeria, Politics, 4/3/2004
The elections committee in Algeria called on the government to halt the series of the acts of violence which overwhelmed the presidential campaigns in preparations for the elections to be on April 8th.
The candidate for the Presidential election, Ali Benflis, accused supporters for his rival, the Algerian President Abdul Aziz Butaflika, of attacking his supporters during the recent elections gatherings. Other acts of violence also took place during Butaflika's tour in al-Kbyle area several days ago.
The chairman of the committee Saeed BuKheir told the Algerian radio "we have asked the ministry of the interior to carry out its responsibilities when the matter relates to convening meetings and preventing people from attending elections gathering. "
