Zaqzouq: No foreign pressures to modernize religious discourse

Mahmoud Hamdi Zaqzouq, Awkaf Minister and Chairman of Higher
Council for Islamic Affairs said that modernizing the religious discourse is a must for correcting the misconceptions against Islam.
He denied any foreign pressures to modernize the religious discourse, noting that Islam urges for continually developing science, knowledge and culture.
He added that women have a main role to play in the society, highlighting importance of women participation in the public life and developing the society.
He said that his ministry will send groups of scholars to the world countries to correct the image of Islam and spread out its principles of tolerance and mercy.
Zaqzouq's remarks came during a meeting with the Women Committee of the NDP policies secretariat.
