Prosecutor requires maximum punishment in drug-lord case
Morocco, Local, 4/1/2004
General prosecutor of the special Court of Justice required Tuesday the maximum punishment against 32 people sued part of the case of drug-lord Mounir Erramach.
Erramach and the other defendants are sued by the appeal court of Tetouan for various charges including public funds embezzlement, international drug trafficking part of an organized network, premeditated homicide attempt, unlicensed possession of firearms, corruption and divulging professional secrets.
The general prosecutor recalled in his summing-up that altercations last August in the northern city of Tetouan between drugs trafficking gangs led to uncovering the network of Erramach and that physical aggressions and murder attempts resulted from these disputes.
He added that Erramach bribed some members of national security, Gendarmerie royale, magistrates, customs officers and clerks in Tetouan to hide his activities.
The court decided to resume hearings next Tuesday to allow the defence to further prepare arguments for the case.
