A Jewish league boycotts a meeting with Mubarak
Egypt-USA, Politics, 4/1/2004
The Israeli daily Yediot Ahronot said that the chairman of the Jewish-American defaming league Afraham Foxman is not intending to attend the meeting which the Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak will hold during his forthcoming visit to the USA, over Egypt's abrogation of the 15th anniversary celebration of signing the camp David agreement between Israel and Egypt.
President Mubarak will meet with the US President George W. Bush on April 12 in his farm in Crawford in Texas. Two days later after Bush's meeting, Mubarak is to meet with some 20 Jewish leading figures in Huston in the same day when the Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon will be meeting with Bush in Washington.
The paper quoted Foxman as saying that Mubarak does not deserve the difficulty of traveling to Texas in order to meet him there. He added " If Egypt was not able to stand openly beside Israel to celebrate 25th anniversary of finalizing the peace agreement, then we can not stand with Egypt in this hour. President Mubarak "should know that there are consequences for his deeds." Egypt, however, had abrogated its celebrations of the Camp David celebrations ceremony following the assassination of the leader of Hamas movement Sheikh Ahmad Yassin.
