Egypt-Regional, Politics, 3/29/2004

Egypt's Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources, Mahmoud Abu Zed, on Sunday announced the establishment of Arab Council for Water on the 5th of forthcoming April in Cairo, stressing the necessity to combine all efforts of the Arab states to carry out a unified strategy to find solution to the problem of water poverty.

In a statement published today, Abu Zed warned that about 90 percent of Arab states will be threatened by the problem of water poverty by the year 2025. He pointed out that this danger required management of the available water resources in the Arab states and using modern irrigation programs and technology for solving this problem.
