Moroccan tour operators eye Russian market
Morocco-Russia, Economics, 3/27/2004
A Moroccan delegation of tourism professionals is attending the international tourism Fair being held in Moscow, with the aim to sell Morocco's destination to Russians.
The delegation made up of Tour Operators and hotels managers from Marrakech and Agadir (South of Morocco),held talks with their Russian counterparts in attempt to attract tourists from this country to the Kingdom.
Abderrahim Oummani, chairman of the National Federation of Hotel Industry said Moroccan professionals are more and more interested in the Russian market in order to diversify their products that should not, according to him, be limited to the traditional French, Spanish, Italian and German markets.
He noted the importance of the Russian market as 30 million tourists from this country spent their holidays abroad in 2003.
He deplored that Turkey, Egypt and Tunisia attract, every year, respectively 1 Million, 100,000 and 50,000 Russian tourists while only 7,000 of them visited Morocco in 2003.
He called on the Moroccan tourism ministry and the Moroccan National Tourism Board (ONMT) to grant more interest to the Russian market and to set as an objective, 300,000 tourists from this country as part of the Government's 10 million tourists target by 2010. (MAP)MK
Morocco "fully rejects" Israel's hazardous policy in palestine, Minister
Rabat, Mar. 26 (MAP)- The Moroccan government on Friday said it "fully rejects the hazardous policy" carried out by Israel in Occupied Palestinian territories, in the aftermath of the assassination by the Israel army of Hamas leader Sheikh Ahmed Yassine.
Israel is pursuing "its military escalation against the disarmed Palestinian people, by murdering the national and political symbols of the Palestinian people," said the Moroccan minister of communication and Government's spokesman Nabil Abdallah.
He recalled the message sent by Moroccan King Mohammed VI to Palestinian President Yasser Arafat in which the sovereign, as chairman of the Al Quds (Jerusaleam) Committee, -an offshoot of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC)- strongly condemned the attack, as a "violation of all celestial religions, human values and international covenants."
The King recalled that the Kingdom of Morocco has already expressed refusal of Tel Aviv's orientation to conduct "systematic brutal raids, and through the adoption of the logic of assassination and force to subdue the brotherly Palestinian people with its various constituents and institutions."
