French-Moroccan might be Madrid blasts mastermind, Le Monde
Morocco-Spain, Local, 3/26/2004

French-Moroccan, Abdelkrim Thami Mejjati, who has been wanted by Moroccan authorities since Casablanca attacks, might be the mastermind and not the instigator of Madrid terrorist blasts, the French daily Le Monde said Thursday.

The instigator would be rather Jordanian Abou Moussab Al Zarkaoui, according to the paper which pointed out that Mejjati is a "member of the Moroccan Islamist Fighting Group(GICM) and that he succeeded after Casablanca May 16th terrorist blasts in crossing the borders to Spain."

The 36 year-old suspect is not only wanted in Morocco but also in the United States, which he visited between 1997 and 2000, Le Monde underlined.

The French daily added that FBI (federal Bureau of Investigations) describes Mejjati as "a potential threat to the United States."

Saudi security forces, le Monde goes on, are also looking for the suspected Moroccan terrorist and described him in an official report as "one of the most dangerous terrorists." The French-Moroccan is wanted since the explosion of a car bomb on November 9th 2003 in Al Mohaya (Saudi Arabia).

Abdelkrim Mejjati was born in Casablanca of a Moroccan father and a French mother and studied in a French High School, said the paper, adding that he had a training on explosives in Cashmere before going to Pakistan, Iran and Saudi Arabia.
