Manama: demonstrations and confrontations near the American embassy

Confrontations took place between hundreds of students and police men in Bahrain near the headquarters of the American embassy in al-Manama during a march of protest over the assassination of Sheikh Ahmad Yassin, But no casualties were reported.
Witnesses said that the Bahraini police dispersed the small demonstration which was carried out by 700 secondary school students and explained that a group of demonstrators estimated between 150- 200 headed to the American embassy at the new al-Zanj area where they threw stones at the police and the police men retaliated by firing tear gas before chasing and dispersing the demonstrators.
The demonstrators threw stones at the walls of the embassy chanting " death for America and Israel."
Meantime, Bahrain's crown prince Sheikh Salman Bin Hamad al-Khalifa met with the commander general of the American forces John Abizaid who had arrived in Manama coming from Sanaa. Abizaid had met with Bahrain's minister of defense Lt. Gen. Rukin al-Shiekh Khalifa Bin Ahmad al-Khalifa. Abizaid will be also meeting with the American military leaders positioned at the headquarters of the American fifth fleet.
