Abu al-Abbas buried in al-Yarmouk camp
Syria-Palestine, Politics, 3/24/2004
Leader of the Palestinian national liberation front Muhammad Abbas, better known as Abu al-Abbas was buried yesterday in al-Yarmouk camp in Syria.
Abu al-Abbas's body was transferred from Baghdad to Damascus earlier on the board of the plane for the International Committee of the Red Cross ICRC to be buried in al-Yarmouk cam.
The body was received by his widow Reem al-Nimer and several Palestinian figures. Hundreds of Palestinians gathered at the entrance of the camp and many of them carried pictures for Abu al-Abbas and others for Sheikh Ahmad Yassin. Thousands of the camp's population walked after the funeral procession in the streets of the camp and chanted anti-US and Arab leaders slogans.
Israel had refused to permit Abu AL-Abbas body to the West Bank after the announcement of his death was made by the American occupation in Iraq because of health deterioration. A matter which the Palestinians doubted. Abu al-Abbas's widow called for making an investigation over his death.
