Some 14 Iraqi policemen killed in different attacks in Iraq
Iraq, Military, 3/24/2004
The police said that gunmen killed four Iraqi police men and five trainees in the police department yesterday ( Tuesday ) after they opened fire on them as they were heading for their works in al-Hella town to the south of Baghdad.
The police director Al-Musein Kazem Ajamai said that the police men were killed today morning ( Tuesday) by the fire of unidentified persons who were riding a Red Opel car.
Local officials said that fire was opened at the bus as it had left al- Maseib town on its way to al-Hella, 100 Km to the south of Baghdad. Workers in al-Maseib hospital said that other three passengers in the bus were injured.
The Iraqi policemen are being exposed to frequent attacks from the side of those who accused them of collaborating with the occupation forces. Al-Hella city witnesses several fire launching incidents from cars during recent weeks while the number of such attacks has been increased in different parts of the country.
This incident came few hours after the killing of two Iraqi policemen in an attack in Karkouk city to the north of Iraq where one American base was exposed earlier to a missile attack.
A police officer in the city police department said the two killed policemen were the two brothers Ahmad Kazem and Muhammad Kazem, noting that the two brothers were killed while they were at an inspection point in the downtown of the city while two other police men were injured in the attack. He stressed that four unidentified persons opened fire from a car as they were passing a security inspection point.
In a later development, confrontations erupted in al-Ramadi city between demonstrators who were protesting against the assassination of the spiritual leader of the Hamas movement Sheikh Ahmad Yassin and members of the Iraqi police.
Witnesses said that the confrontations resulted in killing three members of the police and wounding many others when the demonstrators threw mortars on them. The demonstrators also set fire in several cars and chanted slogans against Israel and the USA. The Iraqi security men and the American forces opened fire against the protesters and this resulted in wounding many of them.
