Al-Shara conveys a message from al-Assad to Mubarak
Egypt-Syria, Politics, 3/24/2004

President Hosni Mubarak of Egypt received at al-Itehadea Palace on Tuesday Foreign Minister Farouk al-Shara.

Shara conveyed Mubarak a message from President Bashar al-Assad pertaining to the current regional situations and the bilateral relations to complete talks of the summit recently held in Damascus between al-Assad and Mubarak.

Syria's Foreign Minister Farouk al-Shara stressed the importance of coordination and consultation between Syria and Egypt to serve the two states' and the Arab nation's issues, on top of which is the Palestinian cause and the repercussions of the Iraqi issue on the region.

In a statement following his meeting with President Hosni Mubarak of Egypt, al-Shara pointed out that he is in touch with his Saudi counterpart, the Secretary General of the Arab League and other Foreign Ministers with the aim of making the forthcoming Arab summit a success.

Regarding the assassination of Hamas Leader Sheikh Ahmad Yassin and the Israeli practices in the region, al-Shara asserted that this incident is dangerous Israeli escalation against Palestine and the Arab nation, pointing out that it should be one of the Arab summit's priorities besides its agenda.

Al-Shara expressed regret over the United States' ambiguous stance and rejection to condemn the assassination, urging it to reconsider its stance in order to improve its image in the Arab and the Islamic worlds.

For his part, Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Maher underlined the two countries' identical viewpoints to activate the common Arab action, asserting that the current situation requires a coherent Syrian-Egyptian stance in the interest of both states and the Arab Nation.

Maher described as more than hideous crime the assassination of Sheikh Yassin, asserting that this crime reflects Israel's hostile intensions towards just and comprehensive peace.
