Moratinos: Spain will not give up fighting terrorism
Regional-Spain, Politics, 3/20/2004

The EU former EU-ME peace special envoy, Miguel Moratinos, expected to be Spain's next foreign minister, said that the decision of the coming government to bring back its forces from Iraq does not mean that Madrid has given up the war against terrorism.

Moratinos explained to the CNN replying to the American criticism that "withdrawing some 1300 soldiers will not change the future of Iraq. It is a wrong controversy." Moratinos considered that the "real controversy pertains to means of strengthening the security, democratic and political process in Iraq."

He added " we believe that we have to change the example applied since this oppressive war which only resulted in more catastrophes and consequently more instability in the world."
