Al-Assad confers with Croat President on development, Consulate opened

Syria's President Bashar al-Assad received on Friday Croatian President Stipe Mesic and the accompanying delegation on the bilateral relations between the two countries, the two sides stressed joint desire for boosting those relations in the fields of economy, trade and investment.
Talks also dealt with the situation in the Middle East and in Balkan. The Croatian President Stipe Mesic opened on Friday the new Croatian consulate in Damascus and the Croatian national Petroleum Company "I.N.I."
Following the opening ceremony, an agreement of cooperation was signed between Damascus Chamber of Commerce and the Croatian Economic Chamber.
In his address on the occasion, Mesic underlined the availability of the necessary potentials for the activation of the trade activities between the two countries, and for the activation of bilateral relations in all fields pointing out to the important position that Syria enjoys between the west and east that contributes to the boom of goods exchange between the two countries.
The Croatian president toured the old part of Damascus city that covered Umayyad Mosque,Sallahul-din Ayyoubi tomb and the Museum of Folkloric Traditions, and listened to a detail review of the history of the historical sites.
