El Mundo: Zapatero to pay his first visit abroad to Morocco, Paper

Spain's Prime Minister-elect, Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, also leader of the Spanish Socialist and Labor Party (PSOE), will reserve his first official visit abroad to Morocco, respecting the tradition of his predecessors, reported on Thursday the Spanish daily El Mundo.

The paper, quoting PSOE sources said the idea of visiting Morocco comes from Zapatero "himself" who considers this visit as opportune following the March 11 bombings in Madrid, to show "the new spirit of close collaboration" that should govern relations between Rabat and Madrid.

El Mundo reported that the PSOE leader had, on Wednesday, a phone talk with King Mohammed VI of Morocco to whom he voiced his resolve to give a "new impetus" to bilateral relations.

After Morocco, Zapatero will tour some European capitals (Paris, Berlin, LondonÉ) at the invitations of their leaders and of the current chairman of the European Union, the Irish prime Minister Bertie Ahern, the paper added quoting PSOE experts in foreign policy.
