Syrian - Iraqi economic cooperation highlighted

Syria's Minister of Economy on Thursday said Syria was a main and strategic partner of Iraq at the economic and trade levels and pledged to exert all efforts to boost Iraq.

Ghassan Rifaee told SANA correspondent in Beirut both countries had recently signed two contracts to export more than 400,000 tones of the Syrian wheat to Iraq during the upcoming three months as the level of food industries and medicines coming from Syria to Iraq increased.

He noted the two sides inked an accord to provide Iraq with oil derivatives and electricity hoping Syria would soon play an effective role in the reconstruction and building of Iraq.

The Minister's remakes came on the margin of the Iraqi Economic Gathering in Beirut.
