Vice President highlights Syria's policy towards Greater Middle East initiative
Syria-USA, Politics, 3/19/2004

Vice President Zohair Masharqa on Thursday rejected US accusations of Syria as baseless, stressing that they would never make her bounce back from her principled positions. He also rejected the US marketing of the so -called Greater Middle East initiative.

In a speech on Teacher's Day, Masharqa said Syria would never retreat from her positions due to threats, promises or bids of embezzlement while these accusations were widely criticized on the Arab and international level.

"These accusations are baseless and the so -called Syria's Accountability Act poses a step that goes over all rules and international laws. The aim of this law was to put pressures on Syria," Vice President said,. He stressed that Syria was confronting schemes that damaged patriotic and national interests and adopted stances based on justice and right.

Masharqa said the US marketing of the so - called the Greater Middle East implied goals aimed at weakening Arabs and strengthening Israel. It also disguised motives to dominate the region directly in a way to put it in a state of full subjugation while its resources would be looted.

He urged to adopt an Arab position that could be up to challenges facing the Arab nation hoping the upcoming Arab Summit in Tunis would achieve some of Arab's aspirations in this regard.
