Two authority candidates win the elections in Comoros
Comoros, Politics, 3/16/2004

The committee in charge of ratifying results of the legislative elections which took place on Sunday in Comoros said that the preliminary first results of the voting showed that two parliamentarians in the Greater Comoros Islands won in the first session of the voting.

One member of the committee said that a parliamentarian in support of the President of the Comoros federation, col. Ghazali Othman, and another one supporter for the president of the Greater Comoros island, Soli al-Bak, were elected in the first session in the voting, noting that the rate of participation in the island in voting ranged between 60-65 %.

The same source stressed that the committee have only the results of elections in two circles out of 20 in the greater Comoros island and hopes to get results of four other circles within days.

These elections, however, constitute the last phase of the national reconciliation process in Comoros which is situated in the Indian Ocean and has been witnessing tension since 1997.
