Two Americans were killed, al-Seistani disapproves of the constitution
Iraq-USA, Politics, 3/13/2004

Ahmad al-Safi, the representative if the Shiite clergy Ayatullah al-Uzma Ali al-Seistani in Karbala city described the provisional state law as a historical farce and a grave tragedy. Al-Safi said in Friday's prayers sermon in Karbala yesterday that this law was composed by the hands of occupation in a way that permits the return back of Jews to Iraq to "assume governmental posts."

The Shiite leader Muqtada al-Sader criticized this law and said it had sold Iraq, noting that what he had called shame will be inflected on his signatories throughout ages.

Al-Sader called in al- Koufa city that the Iraqis will by themselves formulate their own constitution, and denounced what he described the "cunning agreements signed with the occupation authority in Iraq."

Thousands of Shiite of al- Sader supporters demonstrated in al-Fardous square in the downtown of Baghdad as an expression for their protest and rejection of the law on the state's administration for the interim phase.

The demonstrators chanted anti occupation slogans and against the interim governing council and raised banners deploring article "C" of the law which they described as a confiscation of the will of the people and will be conducive to creating a constitutional crisis in future and then they observed a sit in for several hours.

In the course of the attacks which target the occupation, a statement by the central American leadership said that two American soldiers were killed and another wounded in an explosion which targeted an American procession on al-Habaneyah road to the west of Baghdad. The statement said that a bomb was implanted on the roadside exploded in one of the vehicles while the procession was running.

Several American soldiers were also injured following the blowing up of one explosive as they were inspecting one of the deserted buildings in al-Qaem city on the Syrian borders. Witnesses said that the explosive went off when the soldiers entered the building and American military sources refused to deny or confirm this news.

In Baghdad, the Iraqi occupation forces and police enhanced their security measures around Muhammad Fandi al-Kubeisi mosque to the southern west of the city.

This, however, comes one day after the mosque was attacked and one of its guards was killed.

In Baqouba, one official in the Iraqi civil defense stressed that Iraqi police members and the civil defense groups detained on Thursday evening two persons who were trying to implant explosives in the city which is situated to the northern east of Baghdad.
