Amir of Qatar concludes a two day visit to Jordan

The Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa al-Thani, left Aqaba city yesterday in conclusion of his visit to Jordan that lasted for two days during which he held talks with the Jordanian King Abdullah II.

The Jordanian- Qatari summit dealt with the mechanism of revitalizing and enhancing bilateral relations between the two states and enhancing bilateral relations as well as developments in the region. This visit which is considered the first of its kind constituted a new phase in the development of bilateral relations and common consultations between the two states.

The Jordanian businessmen hope this visit to open the door for investment for the Qataris in the Kingdom to contribute to reactivating the Jordanian economic movement.

A Jordanian official source said that the talks focused between the two Arab leaders on the situation in Iraq. They stressed "their support to all steps agreed by the Iraqi people to build the new independent Iraq ." They also stressed the two states' care on the "need to enable the Iraqis to run their own affairs."

Qatar's foreign minister Hamad Bin Jabar al-Thani said that a Qatari delegation will visit Jordan within one week "to explore prospects of investments in tourism areas in particular in al-Aqaba economic area, which Jordan had announced as a free zone three years ago.

Earlier in the day the Amir of Qatar held talks with king Abdullah II concentrated on current conditions in Iraq and Palestine as well as the two issues of reforms and bilateral relations.

The Amir of Qatar arrived in Jordan on Thursday in a two-day official visit. In an arrival statement quoted by the Jordanian official news agency, he said his meeting with King Abdullah comes in the course of continued consultations and the exchange of views on latest developments at the regional and international arenas.
