Libya signed the additional protocol, the IAAE welcomed it
Libya-USA, Politics, 3/11/2004

The International Agency for Atomic Energy (IAAE) welcomed Libya's cooperation which announced on December 19 it will give up its program to produce mass destruction weapons.

The IAAE trustee council issued a decision commending the "active cooperation" by Tripoli. A spokesman for the agency said that Libya decided to submit the Libyan nuclear file to the UN Security Council because of the previous violations for the agreements of the weapons of mass destruction.

Diplomats said that submitting this file to the UN security council is just for 'notification' and a formal measure that does not imply imposition of Libyan sanctions because Libya is collaborating with the agency.

Libya has reinforced its cooperation with the agency by signing yesterday the additional protocol. The text was signed by the official responsible for the Libyan nuclear file Matouk Muhammad Matouk and the IAAE chief Muhammad al-Baradi.
